Fit way to celebrate Women’s Day!

While the world is busy celebrating Women's Day on Twitter, Facebook and other online forums, these women from Gurgaon decided to do something different — dedicate this day to fitness.

Gathered at the Leisure Valley Park at Sector 29, about 70 women from Gurgaon Runners Group (GRG) on Saturday morning took a pilates, a popular full-body exercise, session under fitness trainer Anshu Taravath.

The open session also marked the last day of three-weeks fitness training programme, We Want Wellness, which GRG had especially designed for women. The programme included walking, running, fitness training and yoga sessions.

For one day, these women had shunned their busy morning schedule with kids and family and given fitness a priority. The biggest crowd puller at the event was the very mention of the word pilates—a rather popular workout routine among Bollywood celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt.

“Usually when you invite people to a party, they are quick to accept but when called for a fitness session they always come up with excuses. It was heartwarming to see so many women take a break from the routine and give their health and fitness a priority. I hope they can keep it up for the rest of the year. This is how we should celebrate Women's Day every year,” said Anshu, fitness trainer and a resident of BPTP Park Prime in Sector 66.

GRG, which was formed about a year ago, has more than 150 members now. “Today, women not only wish to celebrate their special occasions but also want to celebrate their good health and happy mind. And for that, nothing works better than a good workout session,” said Mehek Khanna, organizer of the group and a resident of Arihant Apartments in Sector 54, Golf Course Road.

For most of the participants, this was their first ever pilates session. So, how did they take it? “I’m a mother of two. Though I love to work out, I sometimes don’t get enough time. So when I came to know of this opportunity, I knew this is how I wanted to celebrate my Women’s Day – working out with like-minded fitness enthusiasts,” said Arti, a resident of Ansals Esencia in Sector 67.
