Incidents related to thefts in public and residential areas are not unusual but the ways they are being carried out are becoming a cause of concern for all, at least for people residing in Dwarka.

A couple of days back, a resident of True Friends Apartments (Sector 3) had a narrow escape from getting looted, thanks to her presence of mind but sadly one of her friends staying in another society got trapped the other day by a gang of men posing as cops, who indulged her in talks and took her jewellery.

Interestingly, both the incidents occurred in the same sector on a stretch of about 100 metre and that too in broad daylight!

Romila, while narrating the incident to City Spidey, said, “I was on my way to the market and had just turned left towards Kamakshi Apartments. While walking on the pavement, two hefty guys on a bike suddenly stopped me. One of them got off the bike and said, “Ma'am, we are from the police department, please listen to us. I looked at him while the other one too repeated the same thing. I sensed that something was wrong and remained alert. I told them that I was not interested and would dial 100. But they kept insisting. Ignoring them, I started walking fast and entered the gate of Kamakshi Apartments. When I came out after some time they had left the place. I reported the matter to the police when I came to know that a woman was robbed of jewellery recently by such miscreants.”

A lady somehow escaped a similar attempt that took place on a service lane in Dwarka Sector 3 while returning from her evening walk. Sharing her experience, she said, “I had nothing except a gold bangle in my hand. A gang of men, approached me and introduced themselves as police officials and showed their fake IDs. For a moment, I believed them but when they asked for my bangle, I quickly realised the situation and started asking several questions. They got irritated and tried to snatch the bangle. I started shouting and one of them fell down. They, during that scuffle, fled away as some passersby rushed to help me.”

Victims of such incidents advised others to remain alert mainly on service lanes or otherwise as such gangs or miscreants target people, especially women who take walks alone.

When City Spidey contacted police officials to know their course of action regarding the matter, they said, “We have been making efforts to bust this gang called Irani gang as such gangs were earlier reported active in South Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurgaon. We will nab them soon.”
