Scores of angry parents held demonstration on Thursday against the management of Modern Public School in Sector 11 of Noida, against the 40 percent fee hike announced for this academic session.

The parents have been asking the management to roll back the hike and for that they have been regularly staging protests.

According to the parents, they want the school to implement the ordinance that was approved by the Yogi government in April last year. The Self-Financed Independent Schools (Regulation of Fees) Bill 2018, was approved to check arbitrary fee hike by private schools, including minority institutions, affiliated to CBSE, ICSE and the UP Board of Secondary Education.

“The question is why did the school not implement this ordinance. Why have they arbitrarily hiked fee so much? The school management owes us an explanation,” said one of the parents.

Tarun Upadhyay, another parent, said that the school have been charging parents under several categories including smart class, transport, extra activities and cultural activities. “We are paying a huge amount to school to educate our children but they are running it as a business proposal. Despite such hefty fee, they still don’t provide AC buses for students,” he added.

According to the parents, Modern School’s branch in Delhi has a fee structure that is almost half of what they are paying in Noida. “This is totally wrong and unacceptable. They should have a similar fee structure in both the branches,” added another parent.

When City Spidey tried to contact the school principal and management, they did not answer the calls.

Just last month, the district fee regulation committee (DFRC) had imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Apeejay School in Noida’s Sector 16A for hiking its fees abruptly. The action was taken after a complaint was filed by All Noida School Parents’ Association (ANSPA).
