Metro residents might be in for a shock

Residents of Metro Apartments in Sector 71, Noida, have been living in fear of short circuits as it is a common sight to see sparks flying from open electric panels in the society. They are scared that naked wires from the panels could lead to a major accident someday.

Subhash Chauhan, president of the RWA, had complained that the society had more than 50 electric panels, including six in each of its parks.

These panels, after being corroded over the years, are lying in a shambles. The panel covers are long gone and there are naked wires coming out of most panels. This poses a serious threat to residents, especially children, who frequent the park.

Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) is the discom responsible for the maintenance of these panels. PVVNL officials are not serious about the issue, claimed SK Singh, general secretary of the RWA. Singh told City Spidey that he had written to the discom and urged the executive engineer to look into the matter. Nothing, however, was ever done.

With monsoons just round the corner, residents fear that frequent sparks from open panels may lead to life-threatening situations. Rupak Srivastava, vice-president of the RWA, said, that they are scared that if the naked wires came in contact with the electricity poles, they would start conducting electricity too.

Raghvendra Singh Yadav, executive engineer of PVVNL told City Spidey that he had prepared the estimate for installation of new panel covers and re-wiring four months ago. The estimate had been forwarded to the superintending engineer but an approval from him was still awaited.
