In a proactive step, the Noida Authority has started cleaning of drains in the city well ahead of the monsoon this year. It is expected to take care of water logging problem which happens almost every year. The residents will be benefitted if the cleaning activity gets complete in time.
Rajesh Singh, officer on special duty of Noida, said that a meeting of officials especially from public health was convened at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Sector 6 in this regard.
He said they were told to begin the cleaning of drains keeping the public health in mind. They were also told to ensure complete cleanliness at polling stations and adjoining locations of polling booths.
There are as many as forty drains in Noida, which are choked with non-degradable waste and silt as cleaning was not done in recent past. Due to this, many drains are currently overflowing causing residents inconvenience while passing the streets.
Singh said that all degradable material overflowing in the drain will be taken out and silt will also be removed from them. “We have planned to clean all the drains in the city. The issue of water logging will be taken care,” he added.
The officer said that they are also urging residents to change the habit of throwing used packets, thermocol sheets and plats in the open drains. If they stop dumping these materials, the drains will be clean and there will be no water logging problem during monsoon.
Drain clogging is a major issue in Noida. If it rains, water flow on roads causing residents, pedestrians and commuters huge inconvenience during it.
Rauash Bharadwaj, a resident of Sector 121, said that it is too early to comment on the move as such assurances come every year. But while it rains, all roads flood except few ones. “If they come with such cleaning work, it should be done thoroughly. Otherwise, we have been used to such assurance and problems as well,” he added.
