In a compensatory move, the Noida Authority has decided to plant 1500 saplings to provide relief to the residents and the surroundings of Sector 71.

Talking to City Spidey, one of the officials of the authority revealed that it received Rs 5 lakh as compensation amount from Kailash Hospital (Sector 27) to restore green cover in this particular sector of the city.

“The amount was released following an order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to the hospital for constructing a parking area, which was actually earmarked for development of a green belt in the area,” the official added.

Dipti Gupta, a commuter said, “Agricultural-related activities used to take place in this sector a few years ago. But now, there are just buildings. Planting saplings would benefit residents in a big way. It would also beautify the area provided they are maintained properly."

"I welcome the order issued by the NGT. It will help in restoring green cover across the area. Otherwise, it would not have been possible,” said Parul Singh, a resident.

The authority allotted a parcel of land to Kailash Hospital in 2018 for building another one in Sector 71 of the city. This matter got the attention of an environmental activist, who filed case a before the NGT, which ordered the authority and hospital to compensate for the damage caused by them.
