Finally, the residents of Ahinsa Khand II got the privilege to enjoy their Mall Road, which was earlier in a dilapidated state for over a year, in a Raahgiri event organised on Sunday morning.

"Apart from enjoying open streets free of dust and pollution, residents were also elated that they are enjoying this road after a very long time," said Surabhi Gupta, vice president of Bharat Residency, a high-rise in AK II.

The road was in a bad state due to the development work of sewer and water pipeline in Ahinsa Khand II. Fed up with the Ghaziabad Development Authority's delay in reconstructing the road, the residents even campaigned to press NOTA in the upcoming general elections. But, their move forced the authority to reconstruct the road, weeks prior to the election in Ghaziabad.

As many as 250 residents attended the event and participated in activities such as cycling, skating, Zumba, yoga, running, said Jayati Jain, the organiser of the event.

The event was wholly sponsored and organised by the residents of the locality, Jain informed.

The high point of the event was a street play showcased by teenagers. The theme of the event was voting awareness. The public enjoyed it so much that the kids had to perform again on the public demand, a resident informed. The event started from Rishabh Tiraha at 6:30 am and ended at Agarwal chauraha in Ahinsa Khand II.

The senior citizens of the locality enjoyed the most.  Elderly people always enjoy early morning fresh air and it attracted them the most, Jain said.
