The event 'Vote Ka Josh', jointly organised by the district administration and the Federation of Apartments Owners' Association (FedAOA), was held at Indirapuram Habitat Centre as per schedule on Sunday (April 7).

The place was filled with hundreds of residents across the area to witness the programme. To begin with, a street play was enacted, which set the tone of the event.

Afterward, Indian Idol fame Abhijeet Sawant and SaReGaMaPa show singer Himani Kapoor entertained the audience by singing their popular singles, songs.

However, Sawant's performance was short-lived due to power cut and untimely rain.

Realising it, the whole crowd, including district magistrate (DM) Ritu Maheshwari, put on the flashlight of their mobile phones and sang along with him.

The event also witnessed an array of dance performances by children. In addition to it, Sangeeta, a visually challenged girl, received huge accolades from the crowd for her singing performance on patriotic songs.

Post these performances, the district magistrate appealed to the residents to come out on the day of the election and cast vote in maximum number. She also made the public present there take a pledge to vote on April 11.

In the last general election of 2014, Ghaziabad was listed amongst the worst performing cities in terms of voter turnout. In Sahibabad constituency, under which Indirapuram, Vaishali, and Vasundhara come, had a mere 15 per cent voter turnout.
