The incident happened on Tuesday night when a unipole got uprooted and crashed on a police van carrying four policemen.
Four policemen had a narrow escape after a unipole got uprooted and crashed on their van near Shipra Mall in Indirapuram on Tuesday night.
According to the police, the incident happened at around 10 pm.
A policeman, Lakhanveer Singh, suffered injuries on his neck in the incident while other three escaped unhurt. No passerby was injured in the incident.
The unipole was installed at divider of the road. The shopkeepers of a shopping complex – situated just a few metres away – said that the pole was already in a dilapidated condition and could have fallen anytime. “The strong winds just made the matter worse and it crashed," said Dileep, owner of a paan shop at the complex.
A crane was called and it cleared the van and unipole after about one-and-a-half hours of the incident, by 11:30 pm.
The incident affected the vehicular movement leading to a traffic jam as the entire area was barricaded by the police.
Passersby who stopped to see the fallen unipole were taken aback by the intensity of the incident. “I daily travel via this road. It could have happened to me also,” said Rishi Singhal, a resident of Express Garden who works as a management consultant in Noida.
The road where the incident happened connects Noida to Indirapuram and is one of the busiest routes to get to Indirapuram. Dozens of high-rises such as Shipra Sun City, Express Garden, SPS Heights and Parsvnath Majestic Floors fall are located in close vicinity. The presence of two market complexes and Shipra Mall makes this road one of the busiest areas in the city.
