No water supply for next 24 hours in parts of Gurgaon

Residents of sectors 45 to 58 in Gurgaon will have no water supply for the next 24 hours from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening due to the shifting of main pipeline at Hero Honda Chowk.

Yash Pal, Haryana Urban Development Authority administrator, said, “The main water pipeline lies in the way of a flyover project and hence it needs to be shifted urgently. Private construction company Valecha Engineering Ltd has informed us about it and we have decided to stop water supply through Chandu Budhera plant from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening.” The main water pipeline connects Chandu Budhera treatment plant to sectors 45 to 58 and Sohna road.

However, residents are concerned as HUDA has taken the decision without making adequate alternative arrangements for water supply in these sectors. They also fear that the shutdown may extend over 24 hours. Shiwani Sharma, a resident of sector 56, said, “Considering that they already fail to provide a regular supply, they should have made other arrangements.”

Sunil Malhotra, a resident of Sector 54, said, “If there's any delay, which is highly likely, we will be without water this weekend."

K Madhusudhan Rao, general manager of Valecha Engineering Ltd, said, “An alternative pipeline has already been put in place and only needs to be connected to the main supply line. We had asked for a 36-hour shutdown, but HUDA has granted only 24 hours. We'll complete our work in this period. HUDA has also instructed us to finish the job quickly to ensure minimum inconvenience to residents.”

Pal also said, “We understand the concern of residents but what could we do. It is an unavoidable situation. We are, however, making arrangements for water tankers to fulfil the needs of residents.”

Normally, HUDA supplies water to its sectors in the mornings and evenings. But, the force at which the water is supplied is not up to mark and has prompted most RWAs to depend on water tankers. With the shutdown, RWAs will have an increase in the demand. Most independent houses have storage tanks, which, on an average, last for 24 to 48 hours.

LK Agrawal, a resident of Park Palace condominium at Sohna road, said, “We don't have a storage tank big enough to meet the requirement for two to three days. Stored water lasts hardly for 24 hours."
