Gurugram: Residents of Sector 22B miffed as upkeep firm fails to pick up garbage

The residents of Gurugram’s Sector 22B are having a tough time for the past one week over door-to-door collection of waste.

The residents said that for the last five days the staff of Ecogreen – the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram’s concessionaire for door-to-door collection of waste –hasn’t showed up, leaving piles of garbage strewn on roads and pavements.

According to the president of the RWA of Sector 22B, Bhim Singh Yadav, “We had earlier hired a private contractor for waste collection. However, they stopped working from April 1. We later complained to the MCG who had given the task to Ecogreen. This company has been charging us exorbitantly – while average charges for waste pickup service is Rs 47 per house per month, Ecogreen is charging three to four times more than that.”

He further added that even after paying in advance, their problem hasn’t been solved. “They have always been giving us trouble. Sometimes they don’t have vans to pick up the waste. Or they don’t have enough staff. They are highly incompetent and mismanaged,” adds Yadav.

“Since the last five to six days they haven’t come to work at all. We have been taking help from RWA staff to collect waste from all the houses in the area,” said Yadav.

When City Spidey contacted senior sanitation inspector (SSI) of the area, he avoided commenting on the issue and directed us to Ecogreen.

“I don’t know about other days but today we have cleaned up Sector 22B,” said Surender, general manager of Ecogreen.

Reacting to this, Yadav said, “He is lying. We have 32 CCTV cameras installed in our vicinity and one can check that no vehicle from Ecogreen entered the premises. The RWA got the garbage picked up.”
