On the matter of the presence of two liquor shops in close vicinity of residential areas in Ahinsa Khand II and problems arising because of it, DM of Ghaziabad, Ritu Maheshwari, has instructed excise department to examine the issue and file status report by Monday.

Speaking to City Spidey, district excise officer, Mubarak Ali, confirmed the development. "Our department would check the legal aspect of the shops and whether they are being operated as per norms laid out by government," he said.

The residents have been complaining about the two liquor stores for some time now. While one of the shops is situated next to a high-rise apartment, Divyansh Pratham, the other one is located at the ground floor of plot no. 12 and 13, right next to Shanti Gopal Hospital.

The residents of Divyansh Pratham have complained at every possible door for the past two years, from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to city administration. Indirapuram-based Federation of Apartments Owners Association (FedAOA) had also recently written to the GDA over the matter.

The residents of Divyansh Pratham had in the past complained about harassment of women residents and fights with security guards by the customers coming at the shop.

Meanwhile, FedAOA claimed lawlessness and negligence of rules behind operation of the liquor shop opened next to the hospital.

Recently, the matter came into limelight when Sunil Sharma, MLA of Sahibabad, had taken cognizance of the issue and had written a letter to GDA and city administration to take note of residents’ complaint.
