Delhi government has approved the hike in the auto-rickshaw fares and it will be implemented within a week. The revised fares will come into force after the model code of conduct for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections ends.

The government has given its nod on the approved recommendations of a committee for a hike of Rs 1.5 per kilometer on the present rate of Rs 8 per kilometre for all the auto-rickshaw plying in the city.

The base fare has also been revised from the existing Rs 25 for the first two kilometres to Rs 25 for 1.5 kilometres.

The officials of transport department informed that preparation for revised fare has been started so that auto-rickshaw metres can be calibrated for the revised fare.

The transport minister, Kalash Gehlot, has already directed the department to issue a notification in this regard. “Within a week of end of the model code of conduct, the revised fares will be implemented in the city,” he said.
