Noida: RWA and temple trust face off in Kendriya Vihar II

Temples are not just places of worship. People also seek refuge and respite from the ways of the world, even if for a little while. However, there are times when the temples themselves become the cause of conflict.

In Sector 82, Noida, a temple inside Kendriya Vihar-II has been a bone of contention between the RWA and some of the residents for the past eight months over the financial offerings made there.

KM Rai, president of RWA, said, “Despite the fact that the temple is constructed on the society’s land and the society is looked after by the elected executive body, the resident body has no power over the management of the temple.” He added, "The RWA wants to open a bank account for the temple so that the donations can be deposited there, but over a dozen self-proclaimed temple trustees have been opposing it. Their intentions are mala fide.”

According to some residents of the society, they had built the temple of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with their contributions in 2005. Since then, they have been managing the temple on their own, with the help of voluntary donations made by residents.

Refuting the charge made by the RWA, OP Parmar, the president of Prachin Shiv Parvati Mandir Trust, told City Spidey, “The RWA should look at their own mistakes.” He charged the RWA with irregularity in procurement of articles for the society. He added, “The payment of the articles procured for the society should be made through cheques, but the RWA is paying in cash. The RWA is also not conducting fresh elections, despite the fact that the tenure of the existing RWA body got over almost eighteen months ago.”

He said, “The RWA is obstructing the development of the temple. They are not allowing trustees to finish its construction. I have been maintaining an account of every paisa of expenditure. If need be, I am ready to produce receipts of all expenditures.”

Gajanand Dhope, a resident, said that a no objection certificate from the RWA is required for opening a bank account for the temple. But, the RWA is not giving the same and is trying to take control of its management.

Shimla Verma, the treasurer of the trust, said, "The collection from devotees is spent on the development of the temple. There are two priests who get a monthly salary of Rs 5,000 each." She also pointed out that there is no society in Noida where the RWA is managing a temple.
