The Greater Noida Authority has decided to demolish all the illegal colonies, farmhouses made on the banks of rivers Yamuna and Harnandi. The move has come after Chairman of the Solid Waste Management Committee, Justice DP Singh (Retd), took suo moto congisance of the matter.

"All the illegal constructions will be demolished," officials from the authority said.

In this regard, Singh has asked the circle officers to prepare and submit a report with details of the areas surrounding these banks besides whereabouts of the illegal colonies and under-construction houses.

Apart from this, he has asked the irrigation department to notify the Highest Flood Level (HFL) of both the rivers.

The demolition work will begin once the report is submitted to the officials concerned.

Hundreds of illegal colonies have been constructed on the banks of river Harnandi, also known as Hindon. The garbage and sewer water coming from them fall directly into the rivers, making the water polluted.

Similarly, Yamuna is also plagued with waste and sewage due to unauthorised colonies occupying its banks.
