As the world celebrates 'International Yoga Day' with all excitement, City Spidey had a talk with recipient of 'Yoga Shri' title from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr HR Nagendra, who also taught Yoga to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

He is a renowned Yoga therapist, academic, writer and the Founder Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA), Bengaluru.The Government of India had awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2016, for his contributions to society.

Here is the transcript from the talk with him where he animatedly spoke about the enormous benefits of incorporating Yoga in our daily routine: 

City Spidey: How Delhi-NCR resident can beat the effects of pollution and stress with Yoga?

Dr HR Nagendra: Yoga helps in dealing with Pollution effects. Yoga has a lot to offer. It is not merely physical. It is a holistic science that strikes a balance between your body, mind and soul. So to deal with the exceeding pollution levels and its effect on our bodies, Delhi-NCR residents should regularly practice Yoga. Make Yoga the way of life.

City Spidey: Why it is important to inculcate yoga as a habit in growing children?

Dr HR Nagendra: Yoga is imperative for children to bring in them balance and effectively develop their total personality. Yoga helps in solving the challenges of modern era and even benefits every individual. 

As Swami Kuvalayananda has said ‘Yoga has a message for all’. It is important to catch them young and inform them about the importance and relevance of spending time by every one for their own, health, growth, etc.

City Spidey: How yoga is going to help children build better resistant against environmental pollution?

Dr HR Nagendra: By using techniques of breathing and Pranayama children can build resistance to pollution. 

City Spidey: How can you beat stress’s pollution with yoga?

Dr HR Nagendra: Stress is problem that is exceedingly victimizing people. Yoga is very helpful in beating stress. Deep relaxation techniques in yoga can help you to be free of stress. Further, it is important to sensitise people about the benefits of Yoga. 

There is a lot happening in India to promote and propagate Yoga. Among many one such example is World Assembly on Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy (7-10th November, 2019) which is being organised in Greater Noida, India.
