Noida

Panchayat poll results declared: The results of panchayat polls in Gautam Budh Nagar district were declared on Wednesday. Anil Dujana was declared elected for the post of zila panchayat member from ward number 2, He got 16,897 votes against 7,340 votes polled by rival contender, Sangram Singh. While Dujana contested the election from jail, Singh, a lawyer by profession, campaigned wearing a bulletproof jacket citing a threat to this life.

Incentives for Metro link workers: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has offered various incentives to 800 construction workers to speed up work on Noida-Greater Noida Metro link. The NMRC has decided to provide social security and better facilities to all these workers to motivate them to complete the 30-km link before schedule.

FIR sought against Akhlaq’s kin: The forensic report proclaiming that the meat sample seized from Dadri was beef gave a boost to the accused in the case of Mohammad Akhlaq's murder. Father of a prime accused in the lynching demanded an FIR against the family of the deceased for cow slaughter. Sanjay Rana, a local BJP functionary, held a meeting with other villagers and threatened to call a mahapanchayat to press for the demand.

Gurgaon

Traffic situation to worsen: With thin presence of cops on the busy intersections to man traffic, the city is heading for chaos on roads. The traffic department is suffering from acute staff crunch. Internal transfers and training are going to further reduce its strength.

Row over apartment maintenance ends: Residents of Monsoon Breeze apartments in Sector 78 have something to cheer about. Builder of the apartments, Umang Realtech, has conceded to their long-standing demand to take over maintenance and share details of the expenditure if the residents are willing to pay the charges. With this agreement that took place in meeting on Tuesday a long row between the developer and residents has come to an end.

City forest planned: The Forest Department is planning to carry out afforestation of over 190 hectares of land at Sikanderpur Ghosi in the Aravalis to develop it as city forest. The city forest will be developed over a period of four years to serve the city as its green lungs. This will be done in two phases – 2016-17 and 2019-20.

Man shot at in a suspected case of road rage: A 45-year-old man was shot at by two men riding a bike near Sheetla Mata mandir on Atul Kataria Marg on Tuesday night. Road rage is suspected to be the reason behind the attack. An FIR has been registered against the two unidentified youths on the basis of eyewitness account of an employee of an eatery where the incident took place.

Quota stir plan deferred: Members of the Jat community announced on Wednesday that they will not go ahead with their protest on June 5 to demand reservation in government jobs. They have now decided to wait till July 21 before deciding on any future action.
