With a two-week long course in martial arts at Sector 3 of the subcity, they are all buckled up to take on the world.

Don't mess with these Dwarka ladies Self-defense training session in progress at the the camp, a big draw among women and girls of the locality.

A two-week long self-defense training camp for women and girls, held at DDA park behind Heritage Tower Society and Sri Balaji Society of Dwarka Sector 3, turned out to be a runaway success. Organised jointly by the Delhi Police and Mission and Voice of Motherland (MVOM), an NGO from Sector 3 Heritage Tower, the programme was a big draw with hundreds enrolling with it to learn self-defense techniques to be used in times of emergency.

The programme was aimed at empowering women to face any eventuality. According to MVOM chairperson, Amrita Bhattacharya, a resident of Heritage Tower Society, the course helped many women prepare themself to face any inimical situation in life.

“Women and girls from various societies, including Heritage Tower, Balaji, National Apartments etc., and also from surrounding colonies took part in the programme. They were trained in physical fitness, self-defense techniques and confidence building. Around 226 participants completed the progamme successfully,” she said.

Amrita described the response of the societies in Dwarka and surrounding colonies of Sector 3 as overwhelming. She said, “There is a demand for more such camps in different parts of the sub city. We will be organising these as Delhi Police officials, at closing ceremony, assured us of all cooperation in carrying the concept forward.”

During the closing ceremony, area ACP, Kishan Meena, distributed certificates among the participants. Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya, was guest of honour for the occasion. Interacting with the participants, she expressed her joy seeing girls from the underprivileged sections of the society coming forward to take this opportunity to train themselves in self-defense.

“No more tears,” she asserted, adding, “We will fight… we will fight against all injustices heaped on us as women. I am always with you whenever you are in need. The fight is long, but we are confident at the end, victory will be ours."

Dwarka North SHO, Joginder Joon, in-charge Vinay Kumar, woman constable Sunita and other police officials, representatives of various RWAs of the area were present on the occasion.

Dwelling on the self defence, Sunita said, "We should not hesitate to apply the lessons we have learnt at the training sessions at home as domestic violence is rampant in our society.”
