Anticipating delay, flat buyers want their money back

Initially, the builder issued cheques to refund the advance to pacify some angry buyers. But the cheques bounced at the banks for insufficient fund in the accounts of the builder.

Anticipating delay, flat buyers want their money back Towers of Shubhkamna Lords, under construction, unlikely to meet August 2016 deadline.

With Shubhkamna Lords, a housing project in Sector 79, Noida, unlikely to keep its schedule, over 500 homebuyers have demanded refund of the money they have paid to the builder in advance. But the developer, Shubhkamna Buildtech, is neither willing to part with the amount nor setting a deadline for the delivery of the flats.

When construction for the society got underway in 2013, the builder had promised delivery of the flats by August, 2016. While the deadline is drawing close, the builder could be able to barely complete 20 per cent of work on the project. Going by the pace with which he is carrying on the construction, the buyers see no end to their wait in near future.

Nit Chandra booked his flat on seventh floor of a tower in March, 2014 by paying 50 per cent of the cost. As only second and third floors are ready till date, he has to wait much longer than he had expected. "Even the brick-work of the rest of the floors in the towers is incomplete," he rues.

Initially, the builder issued cheques to refund the advance to pacify some angry buyers. But the cheques bounced at the banks due to insufficient fund in the accounts of the builder. Ever since, the hapless buyers are running from pillar to post to get their money back.

Yashodhan Singh, another flat buyer who invested his hard earned money in the project, suspects that the builder has lost interest the project. He told City Spidey, "Customer satisfaction is certainly not the priority for the builder."

When City Spidey took up the matter with the Manu Rai, sales manager of Shubhkamna Lords, he had a different story to tell. Accusing the clients of misleading the media, he said the date for transfer of the possession of the flat set by the company is December and not August 2016 as is claimed by the buyers. He assured that the buyers would get the possession of their flats by June, 2017 as the project is delayed by some months.

The sales office of Shubhkamna Lords claimed that around 60 per cent of the 970 flats have been booked already.
