GreNo: Nirala Estate faces hours-long power cut during muggy weather

When there is no power supply during the sweltering heat in newly developed residential societies, it is in itself a reason enough to feel annoyance. Moreover, paying extra money for power backup for long hours becomes a financial burden for residents. Residents of Nirala Estate in Greater Noida are experiencing the same as main power supply in the society has been disrupted from around last 18 hours.

City Spidey was informed that the disruption in the main power (from NPCL) occurred due to negligence of Greater Noida Authority officials supervising road construction work at the adjoining area of the society.

Azeem Khan, a resident said, “Authority was carrying out repair work on service lane outside the society during which cable connecting power supply from NPCL to the society was cut. Since then we are left to survive with power backup of DG connection which is costing us a lot. If someone is paying Rs 22 per unit for backup power (DG), then it is bound to annoy the people.”

According to the residents, the management charge Rs 22 per unit for power backup and Rs 150 per month as fixed charge for the same. However, the charges of power backup system is different in different societies, including fixed charges.

Vikash Kumar, a resident of Panchsheel Greens in Greater Noida said, “Different societies have fixed their own charge between Rs 120 to Rs 150 as maintenance charge for power back up. Similarly, they have fixed charges unit wise.”

Further, it was informed after communication with Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) and the society’s management department that the main line power supply will be resumed shortly. However, after failing of several deadlines, residents are still waiting to get enough power supply to get their ACs and other electronic equipment function properly.

Neeraj Tripathi, another resident, talking to City Spidey said, “In last 17 hours, around 53 units of power was consumed which cost me around Rs 750 (Rs 22 per unit). There is huge difference in charge of main power bill and DG set’s bill. NPCL charge around Rs 7 per unit whereas we pay Rs 22 per unit for DG set.”
