A 12-year-old resident of Shipra Neo in Ahinsa Khand–I, Indirapuram, was trapped inside a lift (photo inset) while leaving his 9th floor apartment for school this morning.

“I was alone in the lift when the lights went out and it stopped between the ground and first floor. I was stuck for nearly 30 minutes. It was scary," said Rashvinder Jeet Singh.

His mother, Parvinder Kaur, called the security and maintenance staff for help, but neither was able to pry open the doors. "The lift doors had to be smashed open to rescue my boy," Kaur said.

Kaur lodged a complaint at the Indirapuram Police Station against the Shipra Neo maintenance staff.

“This shouldn't have happened. We ensure routine maintenance of the lifts. We have called the lift company, Johnson Group, to enforce measures for future safety,” said Joginder, who is in-charge of maintenance in the society.

The incident coincides with FedAOA's 6 point suggestion for the UP Lift Act.
