The Greater Noida Authority has imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on as many as 14 housing societies for not complying with Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) norms. The officials concerned told CitySpidey that following the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) a team of authority officials has conducted an inspection.
The officials informed that notices have been issued to the societies and they have been asked to submit their reply and fine within two weeks. “They have been directed to pay fine within a stipulated time. If not then the authority may charge up to Rs 5 lakhs,” a senior official said.
Societies that have received notices are- Supertech Eco-Village-2, Gaur City 1, Panchsheel Hynes, Ace Aspire, Arihant Arden, Panchsheel Greens 2, Aarcity Regency, Omkar Nest, Startland Craft.
“The authority has asked them to comply with the norms otherwise they may face action. No one can escape from implying the rules laid down by the respective authorities. Also, they have to comply with directions of the Greater Noida Authority,” said an official on the condition of anonymity .
As per the the residents living in high rises, the situation exists because of the high cost of operation and maintaining the STP system. They normally don't treat the water and drop it directly into the drains.
As per Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority every society has to ensure its own functional sewage treatment plant, and only treated sewer water can be released into drains.
