Prateek Laurel: Dance classes planned to beat loneliness of elders

With fast-paced life and hectic work schedules, people hardly get time to spend with their ageing parents. Life of senior citizens are more challenging especially when their children stay abroad.

To overcome their loneliness, a senior citizen welfare association at Prateek Laurel, a luxury residential society in Sector 120, Noida, is planning to do something for them.

The association has decided to organise dance and music classes for senior citizens who have been struggling with loneliness in the society. The decision was taken during the AGM of the association held on Sunday.

SS Raghav, Secretary of the association, said, “There are several parents whose children are abroad for pursuing their career. While they are out, their parents struggle with loneliness. To take care of it, we are going to hold dance and music classes for them. This will start from next month and it will be held twice in a week.”

The association is currently holding a meditation class for them in the club house of the society. All senior citizens come for the meditation, which takes place during 6 to 8 pm every day.

Raghav said, “Abroad children visit their parents rarely once a year or sometime after a gap of two years. These parents have to manage their own even if they are ill. The association decided to fill their loneliness with happiness. When they will learn how to dance and play music, they will play and dance together with colleagues,” he added.
