Heavy downpour of half an hour exposed monsoon preparedness in Dwarka

Half an hour of rain exposed the much publicised monsoon preparedness in Dwarka. It was a heavy downpour for a brief period and it led to water logging on the roads in the area.

The rains made the mockery of claims of monsoon preparedness by civic bodies like Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

The blocked drains made situation worse as most part of city was inundated with rainwater giving tough time to commuters. The area where water logging was seen were Sector 6, master plan road number 201, Sector 5/6/2/3 and near Palam flyover.

Commuters faced a lot of problems in negotiating the potholes on roads which were not visible due to the water logging. While showing their helplessness, the residents requested the civic bodies to take immediate action to drain water from the roads.

President of Ganpati Apartments, KS Bhati said, “Municipal Corporation and DDA has done nothing. This rain exposed them. At the beginning of the season such type of water logging is saying that they have done nothing in the name of preparation for monsoon.”

People are saying that there are places where this problem has persisted for years. The situation was bad many years ago and it is still the same.
