Residents of Sector 31, Noida, carried out a sanitation-cum-plantation drive on Sunday, with the active support of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sena Sansthan, an NGO, to mark World Environment Day. Around 65 members of the RWA took part in the mission to ensure clean environment in the locality.
During the day-long drive, RWA members could be seen going around the sector with Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sena Sansthan activists removing garbage and planting trees in the neighbourhood park and other places. Saplings of Ashoka, mango, oranges were among 100 trees planted on the occasion.
Speaking to City Spidey, vice-president of the RWA, asserted that the resident body is duty bound to take such positive initiatives towards not only ensuring clean and safe environment, but also to create awareness among the residents towards environmental issues.
“Each one of us is responsible for saving the environment. The issue should not be left to the sole discretion of the government or its agencies or other organisations working for realiasation of the goal," he said.
Pointing at the theme of the year 2016, “Join the race to make the world a better place”, Avinash Singh, a member of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sena, said through this initiative, Sector 31 has set an example for other sectors to follow.
“The passion and dedication with which our volunteers, together with the members of the RWA, carried out the cleanliness drive is worth emulation. We invite others to join the in the race,” he added.
