Foreign nationals, who surprisingly escaped from police custody nearly a week back, have remained untraceable. As per the information, the district police have sought help from African associations to trace their whereabouts.

As reported on July 11, the district police has detained as many as 60 foreign nationals from several residential societies in Greater Noida.

These foreign nationals were detained during clean operation drive launched by Gautam Budh Nagar police. Then, the police had claimed that these foreign residents were involved in various illegal activities including drug trafficking.

As per earlier statement by the police, acting on the basis of its information, the district police launched a search drive in residential societies and found that many of them were living either with forged documents or their visa were expired.

During the operation, the police had also seized over 200 beer bottles marked for sale in Delhi, more than 3 kg of cannabis, six laptops and 114 SIM cards from the foreign residents. However, out of 60 foreigners detained by the police, 17 had escaped from a police chowki in Greater Noida.

“We are trying to locate them but haven’t been able to trace anyone so far. We are in touch with members of the African Association. As per law, we can restrict the movement of foreign residents if they have invalid or forged documents,” Ranvijay Singh, Superintendent of Police told the press.

“They can’t leave the country while raids are being carried out in the national capital region,” Singh added.
