Local administrations and individual private agencies have started a campaign in the name of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ on July 1.

The district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has appealed the citizen of the city to join their hands for the campaign on much needed water conservation issue. 

As the union ministry has recently included the Gautam Budh Nagar district among 255 water stressed district in the country, local administrations and individual private agencies have started a campaign in the name of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ on July 1.

The union ministry has also appointed officials from different ministries for a particular district to initiate the programme. Alok Prem Nagar, joint secretary of Panchayti Raj has been given task for Gautam Budh Nagar.

In a notification issued in last week of June this year, the union ministry had stated, “Appointed central prabhari officials will be working with the team of central government officers, director/deputy secretary level officers and ground water scientists and engineers apart from the state and the district teams. 

These teams would be visiting the identified blocks/districts coordinating for implementation of various water harvesting and conservation measures.”

As per the information, during the campaign workshops will be organised in different places to educate the people of the city. 

The initiative in this regard has already started with water conservation and environment awareness programmes on July 14. Residents of many high rises had participated in the event organised at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Noida.

BN Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar said, “Jal Shakti Abhiyan is one of the most important campaign which has been launched in the whole country and this district is a part of this campaign. There are several components. An important one is plantation.”
