To improve the green cover in the area, the Federation of Raj Nagar Extension planted 40 saplings of Jaamun tree on Sunday. The saplings, provided by Rotary Club, were planted in the outer green belt of KDP Grand Savannah society alongside its boundary wall.

The move is a part of an objective of the federation. “We have taken resolve to plant 2,000 saplings by the end of this monsoon,” said Rajkumar Tyagi, president of the federation.

Tyagi said that the resolve to plant 2,000 saplings was taken to increase greenery at Raj Nagar Extension. “As the area is still under development, it lacks greenery. While Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has planted many trees on the main road, they are still inadequate considering the vast area like Raj Nagar Extension,” he said.

Tyagi said that future plantation will be done inside or outside the societies. He also said that the builders have planted decorative trees which are mostly useless. They just look good to the eyes.

Species like Ficus and Palm are just good for decoration. For the purpose of production of oxygen and other benefits like giving shade under the sun, people must resort to species such as Jaamun, Neem, Bargad etc.” he added.

While plantation have already been done, the real task is its maintenance. Speaking on who will look after all the saplings, Tyagi said that the management of the society will be tasked for that.

“The society's management would look after these saplings. People, who maintain horticulture, will do it irrespective of whether the saplings are planted inside or outside their premises,” Tyagi informed.

Tyagi also said that he requires support from the residents of the area. He appealed all to contribute in plantation drives. “The responsibility of making this area green can't be left on the shoulders of the authority. We have to come out and do our bit for environment. It's for our own benefit only,” he appealed.
