No meter, no power bill, assert Mahagun Moderne residents

Mahagun Moderne is caught in a controversy over unsolicited electricity bills. Residents of this society of Sector 78, Noida, are reluctant to pay the bills that are generated incorporating the charges speculated to have accumulated over a period of time even as meters are yet to be installed.

The grouse of the residents is that the builder, who had assured them that no electricity charges would be levied till the time meters are installed in their flats, is now asking them to pay up a fixed amount to clear electricity charges though meters are yet to be installed.

There are, in all, 24 towers in the society each having 90 flats. Electricity meters have not yet been installed in eight towers, which means 720 flats are without electricity meters. The builder wants the flat owners to clear the dues of preceding months, starting from June 1, 2016, at the rate of Rs 2,000 for 2 BHK, Rs 2,500 for 3 BHK and Rs 3,000 4 BHK apartments.

Ankur Goel, a resident of Mahagun Moderne, recalled that when he came to live in the society, the facility manager had assured him that the electricity charges would not be levied till meters are installed.

"Now that the builder has gone back on his word, residents of all the eight towers are going to meet him to settle the matter once and for all. We will decide on further course of action after the meeting," he said.

Speaking to City Spidey, Amit Yadav, another resident, said he won’t pay the chages dismissing them as unjustified. "Let the builder install electricity meters first. Only then, we will pay according to the reading of the meters," he argued.

When City Spidey took up the matter with Satendra Kumar Singh, General Manager of Mahagun Moderne, he defended his firm’s decision to levy charges from the residents. When reminded about the promise of complimentary electricity, he denied that he or any member of his team ever made such a promise.
