Pilgrims spared from 'No Helmet, No Fuel' formula in GB Nagar

District Supply Officer of Gautam Buddha Nagar, RN Singh, on Thursday directed petrol pump owners across the district to spare pilgrims of Kanwar Yatra from the recently launched 'No Helmet, No Fuel' rule.

The direction comes after the District Magistrate, BN Singh, instructed the authorities to give leniency to the Kanwar Yatris, as the formula is likely to create inconvenience to them.

It is expected that the direction will help the pilgrims a lot as thousands of them, including the two-wheeler riders, pass through the Noida and Greater Noida region.

Though the original direction was aimed to protect the two-wheelers, this exception by the DM is likely to increase traffic violation and accident cases in the region.

On an average, thousand of accidents take place in a year. From January 01 to May 31 this year, total of 481 accident cases have been reported in only GB Nagar. Out of the total numbers, 220 people have lost lives while 393 others suffered head injuries.

The Kanwar Yatra is counted among the holiest pilgrimage of the country. The annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva devotees attracts thousands of people from across the country. These Kanwarias usually visit Haridwar, Gaumukh, Gangotri and Sultanganj.
