Indirapuram: Portion of mall road in Ahinsa Khand II caves in

Following a heavy downpour, a portion of the Mall Road in Ahinsa Khand II caved in on Tuesday morning and fell in the dug foundation pit of an under construction site of a housing project developed by Apex Group. A black water storage tank kept at the site also fell deep in the foundation pit along with the portion of the concrete road. The images show that the soil beneath the road has been washed away and the whole road is on the verge to cave in. A school runs just in front of this spot. To avert the occurrence of any untoward incident, residents had to get down on the road and alert the commuters.

"We have cordoned off and barricaded the area and asked the school to take a different route for their buses. From above it looks like the road is fine but since the mud beneath has been eroded, it won't be able to bear the load of heavy vehicles and they could slide into the deep construction pit dug next to it," said Rajiv Munshi, a resident of Gaur Valerio.

Meanwhile, Munshi complained that despite calling the administration and civic authorities for help no one came and neither we got money from anyone, "We bought barricades on our own," he said. "This is complete negligence on authorities' part. An accident could also have occurred. Who would have been held responsible then?" questioned Munshi.

Alok Kumar, president of Federation of Apartments Owners Association also managed barricading the area with other active residents. He blamed Ghaziabad Development Authority for this situation as well. "The authority sleeps all the time. The builder's apathy in taking proper measures before digging was overlooked by the authority as well. They both are together in this criminal negligence," he commented.

This dangerous situation has brought back the memories from last year where a road near Vartalok Society caved in to a 30 feet deep hole.

"The situation appears quite dangerous. The soil beneath the road seems to be eroded and at anytime. Vartalok incident of last monsoon could be repeated here as well,” feared Saket Jain, a resident of Rishabh Cloud 9 society.

“The authority should take action against the builder,” Jain added.

Just adjacent to this site, another construction site is situated, which belongs to Adinath builders. Because of the digging on that site, a boundary wall of Gaur Valerio, a high-rise situated next to Adinath's construction site collapsed in August 2018.

"The root cause of such mishaps are callousness of the authority. Even after numerous construction of the road, the sewer water still back flows on it. The clogged drains make the area waterlogged during rains. This weakens the foundation of the road which gets dilapidated within no time. This incident in a result of authority's negligence and our lives are in threat," said Sweta Rai, a resident of Exotica Elegance, a high rise in Ahinsa Khand II.
