To ensure peace in the city following the Union government's decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed in Gautam Buddh Nagar district.

It was stated that section 144 was imposed in the district in view of upcoming festivals like Bakr-eid, Janmashthami, Rakshabandhan and Independence Day. The section, which will be in place for two months, prohibits rioting, protesting, or any gathering that may disturb law and order of the city.

Following the decision, the district administration has asked the residents to maintain peace, law and order in the city.

"There are always some anti-social elements who try to disturb the peace. We are just trying to be cautious. It's a routine procedure," said BN Singh, District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The state government has also cancelled all pre-approved leaves of the security personnel and has directed them to join work immediately.
