Dwarka celebrates <i>Shaheedi Diwas</i>

Dwarka celebrated Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjan Dev by organising langar and chhabeel in different parts of the sub-city. The residents of Sector 8 arranged chhabeel adjoining the Queen’s Valley School, along the main road. Sardar Kuldip Singh, Sardar H S Walia, Sardar Paramjit Singh Bakshi were a few of the participants.

Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha at Gurudwara Sahib of sectors 11 and 9, too, celebrated the day similarly. The president of the Gurudwara committee said that people across the community began celebrating at six in the morning and continued till 6 in the evening. Men and women, children and even senior citizens were seen handing out cold sweetened milk or chhabeel.

Representatives from various social and religious associations paid their obeisance to Guru Sahib.

Sardar Arvinder Singh Chhatwal, secretary of Residents’ Welfare Association, Sector 8, and the vice-president of Dwarka Forum, said, “On this day, Guru Arjan Devji, sacrificed his life to uphold the fundamental rights to equality, justice, freedom and religion. So, such activities are organised to make people aware of his ideals and to inspire them to walk his path. The aim is to spread love and harmony.”
