To quench the thirst of commuters in hot-humid days, a water cooler has been installed outside the main gate of Proview Laboni, a high-rise in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad. The cooler, which started function from Sunday, is installed by Crossings branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad, a pan-India social organization.
The water cooler is placed along with the busiest areas of the township, which is surrounded by a busy marketplace and has several societies in the vicinity.
“People come to shop via autorickshaw and cycle-rickshaw. In this hot and humid weather, the water cooler will give much-needed relief to the rickshaw drivers. They usually don’t carry cold water, and this will provide relief for some time at least,” told Payal Tripathi, a member of Bharat Vikas Parishad.
Besides, it will also give a drinking option to the guards working in nearby societies, Tripathi added.
She furthers said that the maintenance of the cooler, including its cleaning and electricity usage will be incurred by the Parishad. She also said that another cooler which was installed earlier in the township is being looked after by the Parishad only.
Last year, the Parishad had installed a water cooler at the Glass gate of the township during the summer. However, this year, the cooler has been installed when most of the summer is over.
Installation of such public water coolers at various points in the city encourages people to ditch plastic bottles. It not only quenches the thirst of human beings but also give some minuscule amount of relief to nature.
