GreNo: Gaur City couple attempt suicide, husband dies

A young married couple living in a rented flat in a multi-story building in Greater Noida West took up an extreme step to end their lives.

According to police, the man, identified as Sunni Khanna, was living with his wife Priyanka in flat number 216, Block E, Fourth Avenue of Gaur City. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his flat. While his wife (Priyanka) was found lying in a pool of blood. She reportedly cut her wrist and is admitted in Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.

Priyanka hails from Chhapra district in Bihar. Her parents live in Stellar Jeevan, a residential society in Greater Noida West.

A neighbour of the couple told CitySpidey that they were living in a rented flat since the last two years. "All I know about them is that they were married and both were working. Sunni was a Samsung employee in Noida while Priyanka was working with Tata Consultancy in Noida," said Ajay Singh, a neighbour of the couple.

Police said that the body of Sunni was taken for postmortem while the woman is recuperating in the hospital. "We are investigating the matter from all angles. Trying to find out what led them to take such an extreme step. We are not able to say more as the investigation is in process”, said Ranvijay Singh, S.P (rural) Gautam Budha Nagar, who is investigating the matter.

He also said that the couple was having some issues which their families were aware of. “The couple's family and friends were trying to resolve the issue. Their families have come. We are trying to ask their families. We will investigate the matter once we get to know about the truth,” added Ranvijay

Neighbours also said that the couple was not much familiar with others. Usually, they were seen at the balcony of their flat. "At times an old woman was also seen in the balcony,” said Ajay Singh, who is also a member of Apartment Owners Association of Forth Avenue of Guar City.

Meanwhile, the woman is out of danger but not in a condition to speak. She is still undergoing treatment. RK Prasad, father of Priyanka said, “We don't know what happened between them which made them end their lives. Once she is able to speak only then we will be able to tell you.”
