The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Noida and Greater Noida Authorities to start the process of giving possession to Amrapali flat buyers without any delay. The apex court also warned the authorities that any delay in the process would land them in prison.

“We are not paper tigers... We will jail you officers if you don’t comply,” Justice Arun Mishra, hearing the matter said. In response, the authorities told the court that they formed a special team to deal with matter and order to be complied with.

In July the court had directed the authorities to give completion certificates of complete flats or projects to the flatowners who have shifted into their flats.

“The registered conveyance deed shall also be executed in favour of homebuyers, they are to be placed in the possession and they shall continue to do so in future on completion of projects or in part as the case may be,” the court had said in July.

While hearing the matter, the apex court also directed the National Building Construction Company (NBCC) to submit its detailed execution plan for construction and modalities for the completion of stuck Amrapali projects by the next hearing. Meanwhile, the NBCC sought Rs 7.59 crore of the work it had done on two projects – Castle and Eden Park in Noida. Hearing the submission, the court assured that it would consider the request.

Around 40,000 homebuyers have been waiting for the delivery of their flats nearly for last one decade. Homebuyers had appealed for seeking its intervention following which the top court on July 23 had directed the NBCC to complete Amrapali projects, barring ownership of authorities from the projects.
