Raj Nagar Extn: Burglars failed attempt to rob highrise ATM highlights flaws

Burglars must have been shocked after they found the ATM they had just broke into was empty. The incident took place on wee hours of Sunday morning when some unidentified miscreants attempted to burgle an ATM machine at River Heights, a highrise in Raj Nagar Extension.

After noticing the damage, guards reported the incident around 7.00 am. "We informed the police right then," told security supervisor of the society.

The miscreants had broke open the machine and plucked the internal wires inside in the attempt to steal the cash. However, their attempt remained futile as cash was not available in the machine, police said.

The ATM machine is situated next to the exit gate of the society and the ATM room is built within society's premises. However, for the ease of access to the public, it has a separate entrance. The ATM room is manned by the security guards of the highrise only.

While the miscreants failed in burgling the cash, the incident poses a serious question of inept vigilance by the security guards of the society. Police also said that the negligence of the security guards has led to this incident. "They did not take note of anyone entering the ATM room in the night," told Ashok Kumar, SSI, Sihani Gate Police Station.

When CitySpidey questioned the security supervisor about this, he said due to incessant rainfall happened whole night, the guards on duty at the main gate had taken shelter in a room situated at the gate. "It must have happened then only. Otherwise, we always look after the ATM," the supervisor said.

Meanwhile, Police is trying to get their hands on electronic footage of the ATM room for the investigation, however, the bank officials are yet to provide it. "They (bank officials) haven't visited the spot yet," told SSI Kumar.
