A green surrounding can always bring around prosperity and affluence. Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS)  a community group of residents from Sector 22 and 23 is on one such mission to spread greenery in the area. During each monsoon, the group runs plantation drive for three consecutive months.

Recently, SDKS carried a plantation drive in the neighborhood parks, roadsides, green areas, and vacant plots. SDKS members not only plant the saplings but also adopt them to look after them. General secretary SDKS DC Mathur said, “We involve the RWAs and the Managements of the societies in the area so that they could relate themselves with it. Every year we plant about 700-800 plants and we are doing this for about seven years now. This time we have a target to plant one thousand plants in the area. Also, we are focusing mainly on the plantation of shrubs in parks.”

Besides plantation, the senior citizens indulge in cleanliness drives. Parks and footpath get cleaned twice in a month on Saturdays. President of SDKS and a resident of Dream Apartments Sector 22, said, “We do the cleaning of footpaths and parks on an alternate basis in Sector 22 and 23. This noble cause has bought residents together to keep the area clean. The group has made the footpaths clean on both side of road number 226 and also made several trees free from concrete at the roots.”

Members of SDKS organizes talks on trees and plants for the kids in the area. Vice president of SDKS, SS Mann said, “We want to pass on the responsibility of clean and green mission to the next generation. So, we do plantation drive with kids too. Also, we talk with them in the parks when their schools are off.”
