Noida: Car in Supertech Eco Citi basement parking catches fire

A major incident was averted on Sunday morning after residents managed to douse a car on fire parked in the basement of  Supertech Eco Citi, a high rise residential society in Sector 137.

According to an eyewitness, the driver had just started the car, Maruti Esteem. Observing that smoke was coming out from the front portion of the car, the driver exited and found it was on fire.

The flame was so incentive that the entire basement was covered with thick smoke, which reduced the visibility in the parking area. When residents saw the smoke coming out from the basement area, they rushed to the spot and start putting efforts to douse the fire. After several minutes they managed to douse it.

As per reports, the fire brigade reached the spot 40 minutes after the incident was reported. By that time the vehicle was charred.

An ex-air force officer, Crd Raj Kumar said, "A big incident was averted yesterday (Sunday) as they manage to put off the fire. No causality and injuries were reported."

Kumar further said, "But the incident has brought fault out as the developer had not made the provision of exhaust in the basement. Due to this, the basement was engulfed in smoke."

Residents have lodged a complaint with the office of Chief Minister, UP, demanding action against the developer.

Meanwhile, when CitySpidey tried to take the developer's version on the issue, its spokesperson denied commenting on it.

While speaking to the reporter, AK Singh, Chief Fire Officer, G B Nagar, he said that the fire was doused yesterday. He said, "We have not receive any complaints from residents till now. If it is received, action will be taken."
