No lights in neighbourhood parks pose security threat to Dwarka residents

Residents of Dwarka are concerned about two neighbourhood parks in sector 7 which have no lights. One of the parks is adjacent to Harsukh Apartments, while the other one, which is bigger in size, lies behind Brahma Apartments. Earlier the responsibility of both the parks was with DDA, but now their maintenance has been handed over to South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). Residents said that neither DDA nor SDMC is doing anything to properly lit the parks.

A resident of Brahma Apartments Munish Kundra said, “Both the parks are in a bad shape and used by community people. Earlier we had expectations from DDA for managing the park, but now we expect SDMC to manage the park. However, it looks like that the corporation is not concerned about the parks.”

People said that SDMC installed lights in a small part of the park which has an open gym. They also said that there were lights in the park behind Harsukh Apartments but they were not working properly. However, there are no lights in the park which is bigger in size. As a result, the park remains dark posing security risk to the residents. A group of residents who have formed morning walkers club in the area said that due to darkness, residents fear for their security.

One of the members of the club and resident of Harsukh Apartments sector 7, Ravi Jaitely said, “Since there are no lights in the park and the area around the park is also not properly lit, therefore we face many problems in using the area. The overgrown branches of trees have covered the street lights making them useless. I request the civic bodies to look into this matter.”

Director Press Information, SDMC, Radha Krishna said that he will take the subject into concern and do the needful.
