Gurugram: Removal of poop area irk pet parents of GPL Eden Heights

A group of residents of GPL Eden Heights in Gurugram's sector 70 are appalled with the arbitrary order of removing the designated poop area situated in front of C tower in the society. The decision is drawing flak from the pet parents of the society, who feel pet too have rights.

Few residents have alleged that the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) is harassing the pet parents by hurling abuses on social media and instigating other residents against them.

The residents informed CitySpidey that the builder had provided a designated area for dogs to relieve themselves. However, on August 16, the RWA arbitrarily decided to remove the area from the premises of the society and released a notification imposing a penalty against the residents if found in violation of the newly-formed guidelines.

Mili Kapoor, a resident of C tower of the society said, "When I moved to this society four years back, I was at ease that the builder has adopted a pet-friendly provision in the society as I have three dogs. It was all good until the formation of RWA which has taken the decision without consulting us. When I raised my objection, the members of the RWA sub-committee started harassing me and threatened my maid and house-help, they are risking the life and liberty of my pets. They are also provoking people against other pet parents".

There are around 20 residents in the society who have pets and they feel the taken decision is not in the interest and will pose a greater risk for the safety of the residents and their pets.

Anu, a pet owner said, "it is very difficult for an aged person like me to take the dog outside the society at night as our society is nearby to a highway. The builder had provided the provision of poop area, if anybody has an objection to it then the same can be arranged elsewhere inside the premises of the society."

Other residents have also raised their objection saying that the decision will add animosity among the residents and will deteriorate the peaceful environment of the society, Ruchika Garg, a resident of the society said, "Though I am not a pet owner but the decision is beyond reasonable. There are many pet owners who are following the rules and maintaining the hygiene of the society and are suffering because of a few people who are inconsiderate toward the issue. We can educate them to not do so and follow the rules but cannot penalised those without any faults."

Many residents argue that in the absence of the poop area, people will start littering around and then it will be very difficult for the RWA to manage the society altogether. They need to provide some alternative which is acceptable to all. Many believe that not much area is needed for poop area inside society.

"Since we are a minority in the society, the RWA is forcing their decision on us. My dog is a part of my family and his well-being is my priority. Those who make rules does not know the sentiment we have attached to our pets, for them, they are just a nuisance which is simply not the case. The pets have their own rights and no one can deny them that," said a resident who does not want to be named.

Meanwhile, when CitySpidey contacted Ram Avtar Yadav, President of GPL Eden Heights, he refuted any accusation made by residents.

He said, "We have proposed several suggestions to relocate the poop area in the society but there was no consensus among the residents to maintain the hygiene in the society for which we have to take the decision. We have taken the decision with respect to the demands of other residents and assigned the new area adjoining to the society's main gate and anyone who wants to get their dog relieved can simply do so'.
