It is during summers that the need for electricity is the most. Air conditioners, coolers, fans and refrigerators prove their mettle in this season. However, all of them need electricity and unfortunately that is missing in several sectors of Noida of late.

Frequent power cuts seem to have become the norm. Sectors 27, 34, 53, and 62 are the ones worst affected.

According to residents, there are about 10 to 12 power cuts in a day in various sectors. Power cuts are most frequent at night.

BS Khaati, secretary of RWA of Rajat Vihar, told City Spidey, “There are power cuts in the society for about eight to 10 hours in a day. There is also no fixed time for power cuts.”

The timing of the power cuts also aggravates the problem for some. KK Jain, president of RWA, Sector 34, told City Spidey, “After a day of hard work, office-goers need to rest in the evenings or at night. But power cuts at night doesn't let them rest or sleep properly.”

Frequent power cuts have also ensured that even inverters can’t come to the rescue in the sweltering summer heat. Rajeev Gary, secretary of RWA, Sector 27, said, “Inverters can’t work for long due to insufficient charging. We’ve also been experiencing voltage fluctuation in the sector. Some of our appliances, like AC, microwave, have been damaged.”

When we took up the matter with Mukul Singhal, superintendent engineer of Uttar Pradesh Power Coorperation Limited (UPPCL), he said, “The problem of power cuts in some sectors is due to local faults.”
