Actions speak louder than words! A group of young crusaders from Gurugram city has taken this proverb seriously and they are working towards making their city green and clean.

With this aim in mind, members of a social group, Azadi, on Saturday held a plantation drive in a park based in Sector 14 on Saturday. During the drive, they planted various saplings including Neem, Peepal, Champa, and others.

The group Azadi, is the brainchild of a 16-year-old boy, Siddharth Gupta, who wanted to do more than just 'talking'. The group was formed to make the city a better place to live in. He formed a WhatsApp group and soon more people joined the initiative.

Till date, they have carried out several such drives in different parts of Sector 12, 14 and 15. Recently, they planted 250 saplings in an hour of time.

More than 60 volunteers between the ages of 13-16 years are part of this group.  Gupta said, "We started our mission on July 23 and so far we’ve planted more than 450 plants in various localities in the city. We identified spots and cleaned them later with the help of MCG (Municipal Corporation of Gurugram) we planted the sapling. We also make sure each sapling survives. As a youth, we understand the environmental challenges and try to improve the situation by doing our bit.”

Such initiatives by youth inspire other elderly people to work towards a better environment and surroundings. Especially at a time when concerns over the rapidly degrading environment, particularly minimizing green covers are nothing but just a mere of topics to hold discussions.
