Ban on polythene bags sees no effect in Dwarka's weekly market

It has been more than a week since South Delhi Municipal Corporation banned the use of polythene bags. They even initiated a drive to check and prosecute the one-time plastic bags in the markets which fall under its jurisdiction. The corporation is making all the efforts to stop such polythene bags in the markets. It has even claimed that all those seen using polythene bags will be prosecuted. However, polythene bags are still seen in weekly markets of Dwarka.

The photograph shows one of the biggest vegetable market of Dwarka which is held every Sunday at sector 14. Even after SDMC's ban on polythene bags, vegetable sellers and other vendors were still seen giving stuffs in these bags which are hazardous for the environment. Moreover, the suppliers of polythene bags were seen in the market. This is a big question on the authority that even after the ban, they couldn't prevent its usage in the markets which fall under its jurisdiction.
