Supertech Ecociti demands an inquiry against the builder in two fire incidents

In just 14 days two fire incidents in Supertech Ecociti, a high rise residential society in Sector 137, Noida, has shaken the residents of the apartments to the core. Residents of the society on Thursday, Aug 29 complained with Chief Executive Officer, Noida Industrial Development Authority, Ritu Maheshwari.

Drawing the CEO's attention towards the incidents in the society, they told her that the developer was allegedly issued completion certificate without proper inspection. Due to this, they are now living under constant fear in case the fire breaks out again in society. They demanded a high committee independent inquiry for issuance of completion certificate (CC) to the developer in spite of rules being violated.

In the letter handed over to the CEO,  residents have highlighted that the developer has not installed mechanised exhaust in the double basement in the society till date. “How authority officials have issued CC without inspecting everything in the society,” the letter read.

Further, the residents allege in the letter that officials are hand in gloves with the developer for granting the CC to the society, now resulting in serious accidents as the fire controlling equipment installed in the society is not in order.

When the second fire incident occurred on 26th August 2019, the fire alarm did not ring. The residents experienced suffocation due to dense smoke from the fire in residential tower O of the society.

Cdr (Retired) Raj Kumar, who complained, demanded an independent inquiry by the high-level committee to uncover the nexus between the developer and the officers.

After the residents' complaints, Ritu Maheshwari immediately ordered a site inspection. She said, "Officials have been directed to visit the society along with the approved plan and compile detail reports of the inspection.''

Following the CEO's order, a team of officers visited the society on 29th August. They are yet to present the report before Ritu Maheshwari.
