Congratulations, Mayank Singhal! You have done Greater Noida proud!

GreNo boy ranks 34th in JEE Advanced 2016

His first love is physics and he doesn’t believe in endless hours of slogging. Meet Mayank Singhal, the Greater Noida boy who ranked 34th in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2016, conducted for admissions into the IITs.

Coming from a middle-class Sikandrabad family, Singhal was staying with a relative in Alpha II, Greater Noida, for the past few months. His father is a small-time businessman and mother a housewife. He had been attending coaching classes at a private tuition centre in Greater Noida.

As the website had crashed due to heavy traffic, he got to know of his performance only a couple of hours after the results were declared.

The 16-year-old student of St Vivekanand International School in Sikandrabad is now eyeing a seat in Computer Science at IIT Mumbai. He attributes his success to intelligent studying, and six hours of devoted textbook time every day. The quality of time is important, not the quantity, believes the star performer.

Singhal was also the CBSE district topper in Class XII and had scored 485 marks, or 97 per cent. He had also bagged the 15th rank in the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) for admission to engineering colleges in the state, but says IIT is his first choice. His ultimate aim is to clear the IAS and become a civil servant.
