Supertech fined Rs 35L for violating environmental norms by UPPCB

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board on Monday imposed a hefty fine on a Noida based realty major, Supertech, for violation of environment norms at its one of the housing projects, Supertech Ecociti, in Sector 137.

It fined Rs 35,10,000 for non-compliance of environmental norms. As per the notice, the control board had conducted a surprise inspection of the society in November last year. During the inspection, it found out that the SewageTreatment Plant (STP), installed at the housing project was not functioning. Later, the inspecting team collected the water samples from the plant for further analysis.

The notice further stated that as per the analysis, the water quality was not as per the prescribed standards of the board for treated wastewater. Later, it had given time to the developer to comply with the laid norms.

After two months, on January 28, the board had again conducted another inspection of the housing project and again, the plant was not functioning and it was shut down. Acting against the developer, the regional office of the pollution control board in Noida forwarded the complaint and analysis report to the board's headquarter in Lucknow city.

Meanwhile, the developer responded to the first notice given by the regional office and informed them that STP of the housing project made functional from March 15 onwards. It was also inspected by an official of pollution control board on March 18.

But the board imposed fine Rs 35,10,000 for flooding out the sewage in the open drain during the period between November 21, 2018, to March 17, 2019, during which the STP was not functional. The board told the developer to compensate for the damaged caused to the environment during the period.
