After months of struggle and reminders, the long-pending issue of connecting sewer lines with the residential societies of Ahinsa Khand II area is finally going to be resolved. On Thursday night, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) completed its works of connecting the newly installed sewer lines with the main sewer line, said the officials. Now the high-rises in the area have to install their sewer connections with the new line in order to avail the facility.

The development work of the sewage line began in June last year and was due for completion by December 2018. The sewer lines of the locality were nonfunctional from a long time and due to the delay in completion of the work residents were forced to dump their sewer waste via private contractors.

Federation of  Apartment Owners Association (FedAOA), who have been constantly reminding the GDA to complete the work, appealed the societies in the area to interconnect their sewage lines with the newly laid line. Alok Kumar, President of FedAOA said, "We have suffered long enough without this basic civic amenity (sewer) in the area. Now that it is ready, the societies should come forward and avail it. It's good for both, the residents as well as for the environment."

In August 2017, FedAOA had approached NGT about the issue of choked and overflowing sewer lines in Ahinsa Khand II. A case was filed in the green court, citing the environmental impact of the overflow of untreated sewer water into the city’s stormwater drains. The NGT had directed the authority to lay down the sewer line in the locality.
