Chief Executive Officer of Noida, Ritu Maheshwari, on Wednesday flagged off the first phase of anti-plastic drive intended to make the city free from plastic.

During an event held on Monday in sector 43 market, Noida Industrial Development Authority planned to make Noida free from plastic. It was decided that CEO of Noida Authority will flag off the drive on 11 September, 2019 to celebrate 'cleanliness is service' month.

While inaugurating the drive, Maheshwari appealed the residents to come forward in contributing towards making the city free from plastic. She said that residents should cooperate with sanitation staff and contribute in making their residential sectors free from plastic.“If you find plastic bags dumped anywhere in sector, you are requested to collect them and give them to staff deployed for collecting door to door garbage,” she said.

The first phase of the drive will go on for 21 days between September 11 and October 1. Under the first phase, social organisations from the city, sanitation staff from public health of Noida Authority and residents will pick up plastic bags dumped on roads, parks, green belts etc.

The authority identified four locations in Sectors 8, 31, 80 and 110, where collected poly bags will be stored for dispatching them to a factory, which is produces cement. The factory will use them as fuel with coal.

“During the second phase, which will be held next month on 2nd October, a massive drive by all the residents will be carried out for picking plastic from across the city,” officials told.

“In the last phase, which will take place between October 3 and October 27, residents of the city will be educated on recycling items made from plastic,” officials added.
