Ghaziabad: GDA pulls down 'model road' project due to budget constraint

Ghaziabad Development Authority has put its much-publicised project of developing model roads across Ghaziabad on the back burner.

The officials said that the reason behind this decision is the budget constraint the authority is currently dealing with. "We have a budget left for running projects only. It's difficult to start something new at the moment," a senior official said.

However, the project has been kept in the pipeline for now. "We will start when we get provisions in the budget for the project," the official added.

As per the project, the GDA had been contemplating to develop one of the roads in Indirapuram as a model road of the area, officials said. Besides, it was planning to develop 11 roads from eight localities, including Raj Nagar Extension, to develop as model roads of the city. While the choice of roads in other localities was finalised, the authority was yet to decide between the two options in Indirapuram.

The two options for the model road project in Indirapuram were 7 km long Kala Patthar Road and 2.1 km long Dr Sushila Nayar Marg between Bikaner Chowk to Aditya Mall.

The highlight of the project was the upliftment of the existing roads with the reconstruction of footpaths, redevelopment of the central verge and developing greenery on the roadsides.
